Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to Accept a Gift from the family and friends of Chris Thiel for purposes of installing a limestone seating block in memory of Chris Thiel at the Wingra Dam. (13th AD)

Whereas, the family and friends of Chris Thiel would like to provide a gift to the City for purposes of installing a seating stone in memory of Chris at the Wingra Dam; and,
Whereas, the aesthetic and landscaping plan for the dam was designed by the late Chris Thiel (1964-2011), who was a local Landscape Architect; and,
The dam design incorporates a grassed pedestrian-friendly area with limestone seating blocks that is currently enjoyed by many; and,
Whereas, the family and friends of Chris envision that a fitting memorial to Chris would be an additional limestone seating block to be placed near the others, with the inscription "In Memory of Chris Thiel" or similar; and,
Whereas, representatives from the Engineering Division and the Parks Division have reviewed the proposed installation area and determined that the location is acceptable from aesthetic and maintenance perspectives.
Now Therefore Be it Resolved that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to accept a donation to fund supply and installation of a limestone seating block memorial to Chris Thiel to be placed at the Wingra Dam; and
Be it Further Resolved that the City Engineer is authorized to take necessary action to undertake, direct, and complete the installation of the memorial by a Contractor; and
Be it Finally Resolved that the City Purchasing Agent and Comptroller are authorized to sign necessary service contracts and/or purchase orders required under City policy to contract installation of the memorial.
Fiscal Note
Funds for the memorial will be donated by the family and friends of Chris Thiel. The cost of the memorial is estimated at $1000. No City funding is required.
