Body
DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS: Under current ordinance and state law (sec. 66.0517, Stats.), the Mayor appoints Weed Commissioners, which are subject to Council confirmation. In practice, City employees in the Streets Division are appointed as Weed Commissioners. This ordinance allows the Mayor to delegate the authority to appoint the Weed Commissioners to the Superintendent of Streets, and provides that appointments of the Weed Commissioners are not subject to Common Council confirmation.

The Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby ordain as follows:
Subsection (4) entitled “Weed Commissioners; Appointment, Oath, Term; Exception” of Section 23.29 entitled “Noxious Weeds” of the Madison General Ordinances is amended to read as follows:
“(4) Weed Commissioners; Appointment, Oath, Term; Exception. The Mayor shall appoint two (2) or more Weed Commissioners on or before May 15 in each year; such Weed Commissioners shall take the official oath (which oath shall be filed in the office of the C...
