Commending Dean Brasser, Finance Director, on his retirement from the City of Madison after 35 years of exemplary service.
Body
WHEREAS, Dean Brasser began employment with the City of Madison on June 7, 1976 as an Accountant 1 in the City’s Accounting Division; and

WHEREAS, Dean was promoted to Accountant 2 and 3 before transferring to Madison Metro as the Finance Manager in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Dean returned to the Comptroller’s Office in 1989 and worked his way up from Administrative Analyst 4 to Deputy Comptroller in 1996 and Comptroller in 2000 (retitled to Finance Director in 2011); and

WHEREAS, Dean has a reputation as a man of great integrity, impeccable financial judgment and steadiness of character; and

WHEREAS, Dean was an exemplary public servant, resolutely promoting “Candor is the Best Policy,” and ensuring the light shined brightly on information for citizens and elected officials; and

WHEREAS, Dean was always eager to learn new things and had the rare ability to clearly articulate complex issues to educate staff, policymakers and the general public about City financial issues; and

WHEREAS, the City has maintained its Aaa bond rating through Dean’s entire career; and

WHEREAS, no door in City government was wider open than Dean’s, who always took the time for any visitor, regardless of looming deadlines and an often hectic schedule; and

WHEREAS, Dean’s green thumb was the envy of many office gardeners; and

WHEREAS, while we know that he will miss those all-night Council meetings listening to discussions of City issues, we also know that he will enjoy spending time with his wife Barb and his three sons.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison commend Dean Brasser, Finance Director, on his retirement from the City of Madison after 35 years of exemplary service; and
