DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS: This ordinance authorizes an alderperson to represent the newly redistricted district in which they reside after redistricting. If an alder lives outside of their former district, due to the redrawn lines, they may serve the same-numbered new district until the end of their term. The Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby ordain as follows:
Section 3.21 entitled “Organization Under Mayor Plan” of the Madison General Ordinances is created to read as follows:
“3.21 REDISTRICTING OF DISTRICTS AFTER DECENNIAL CENSUS.
Upon reapportionment and redistricting of the districts of alderpersons after the decennial census, any alderperson residing in the same numbered district from which he or she was elected shall, pursuant to Wis. Stat. Sec. 62.08(3), represent the new district from and after the ef...
