Proclaiming January 18, 2011, as 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment Day in the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment is a Wisconsin Army National Guard unit headquartered in Madison; and
WHEREAS, the 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment is currently deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn; and
WHEREAS, the 147th is responsible for all aviation operations, including troop and cargo movements, medevac and attack missions, in the southern portion of Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the 147th averages more than a dozen missions per day, providing vital services during a time when U.S. troop strength is being reduced in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the 147th plays a significant role in the transition process of Operation New Dawn; and
WHEREAS, the 147th is scheduled to end its deployment and return home in the summer of 2011, but until then the people of Madison wish to send them this official letter from home thanking them for their service to our country, wishing for their safety and anticipating their return home to their families and their community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and the Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, January 18, 2011, as
1ST BATTALION, 147TH AVIATION REGIMENT DAY
in the City of Madison and encourage all residents to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment to the state of Wisconsin, the United States and the people of Iraq.
