Funds are available in the 2009 Police Department Operating Budget ($5,000) and Fleet Service Operating Budget ($25,000) for the purchase of a vehicle to tow a horse trailer. Donated funds will be used to set up and mark the vehicle for Police use.

Body
WHEREAS, in 2009 the Madison Police Department (MPD) was allocated funding to purchase and equip two squad cars; and

WHEREAS, in the course of purchasing equipment for these vehicles, a one-time cost saving opportunity arose that allowed for the acquisition of radio/data communications equipment at a substantially reduced price; and

WHEREAS, additional savings was obtained through the use of grant funded in-car video equipment; and

WHEREAS, as a result of these savings and additional equipment provided through grants and other revenue, funding is available for the purchase and equipping of one additional police vehicle; and

WHEREAS, the Police Fleet Manager has identified a significant need for a vehicle capable of pulling a horse trailer; and

WHEREAS, the Police Fleet Manager has indicated that without this vehicle the Department will be unable to transport horses needed for use by the Mounted Patrol.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Police Department fleet be increased by one; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that remaining vehicle funds in the 2009 Fleet Service and Police Department Operating Budgets ($25,000 and $5,000, respectively) be used in conjunction with donated funds to purchase, equip and set up a vehicle capable of towing a horse trailer; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the 2009 Operating Budget is amended by transferring $5,000 from the Police Department to Fleet Service as partial funding of the purchase.
