Awarding the second annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award to Nan Fey.
Body
WHEREAS, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and the Madison Common Council created the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award in memory of Jeff Erlanger's contributions to the City of Madison; and
 
WHEREAS, a committee appointed by the Mayor has selected Nan Fey, an individual who shares Jeffrey Erlanger's dedication to and compassion for public policy development, civility and individual human rights; and
 
WHEREAS, Nan Fey chairs the Madison Plan Commission and allows fair, civiil discourse on contentious issues brought before the body; and
 
WHEREAS, during her time serving on several City committees, Nan is known for her exceptional leadership skills and ability to moderate courteous, civil debate on controversial issues; and
 
WHEREAS, Nan continues to be a leader and a resource for the City's sustainability efforts and an avid community gardener; and
 
WHEREAS, Nan is known and respected for her ability to work with those from all parts of the City and from all walks of life, seeking common ground to help resolve tough issues, and always recognizing that fundamental respect is the cornerstone of political discourse;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Nan Fey is the recipient of the third annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council presents this award to Nan as a way of honoring Jeff's life and inspiring others to his high standard of passion for public policy and civility in public discourse.
