Commending Lyle Kleppe for his contributions to the City of Madison during his 57 years of service
Body
WHEREAS, Lyle Kleppe began his career with the Madison Department of Public Health laboratory as a Public Health Technologist II on August 4, 1952; and
WHEREAS, in 1975 Lyle became a Microbiologist III and also assumed the responsibility of the microbiology Lead Worker; and
WHEREAS, Lyle has had a long and dedicated career in public health that has included testing thousands of strep throat cultures from Madison school children; participating in a large CDC study on strep infections; providing the city pollen and mold spore counts to thousands of allergy sufferers for many years; testing hundreds of thousands of city drinking water and private well water samples for bacteria to assure the safety of our drinking water supply; testing beach samples and closing beaches when needed; testing swimming pool samples; and many other types of public health microbiological testing; and
WHEREAS, Lyle has provided an invaluable service for the public health of our community; and
WHEREAS, Lyle Kleppe is retiring on December 11, 2009 after a remarkable 57 years as an employee of the City of Madison, the longest tenure of any employee with the City of Madison and has helped in the transition from the Madison Department of Public Health to Public Health Madison and Dane County;
NOW, THEREOFRE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison honor Lyle Kleppe for his long and dedicated service for the health of the community and wish him all the best in his retirement.
