Title
SUBSTITUTE To authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an eighteen nine month renewal of the existing contract for towing and vehicle storage services with Schmidt's Auto Inc.
Body
WHEREAS, the City utilizes a city-wide towing contract to provide towing and related services primarily for the Madison Police department (MPD), and also for other departments such as Fleet Services and Metro Transit; and

WHEREAS, the City's current contract for these services is with Schmidt's Auto, Inc., as authorized by RES-05-00754 (ID # 01948) adopted on September 20, 2005, for four years with two optional one-year renewals; and

WHEREAS, that contract was extended for a period of 90 days on October 2, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Purchasing Services, on behalf of MPD, Fleet Services and Metro Transit desires to renew this contract for a period of eighteen nine (18) (9) months beginning December 30, 2009 so that the contract expires at a more convenient time of year for administrative purposes; and

WHEREAS, although the original contract and authorizing resolution allow up to two (2) years of renewal without additional authorization, the contract only contemplates one year of renewal at a time, so it is prudent to seek Council approval for a renewal period of eighteen nine months;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into and sign a renewal of the above contract City for towing and vehicle storage services with Schmidt's Auto, Inc., as negotiated by Purchasing Services, for a  term of eighteen nine (18) (9) months.
