BACKGROUND

Madison Water Utility was required by the U.S. EPA to develop and make publicly accessible an initial inventory of water service lines connected to our system by October 16, 2024, to comply with federal laws around lead in water lines. Madison Water Utility removed all known lead service lines over a decade ago, but we unfortunately submitted an incomplete initial inventory. Due to the incomplete inventory, we were deemed non-compliant with the requirement, and utilities that are out of compliance are required to give public notice of this status. 

 

The Utility has since corrected the water service line inventory and has been deemed compliant as of December 13, 2024.  However, the Utility must still give public notice of our earlier violation in accordance with Subpart Q of 40 CFR [Code of Federal Regulations] Part 141. Please see attachment - A for a copy of the public notice that the Utility is planning to issue. By issuing this notice, the Utility will be resolving this violation.  Madison Water Utility remains committed to providing clean, safe drinking water to our community.
