Title
Authorizing design and implementation of a Public Art Work, not to exceed $75,000.00 for a public art work at the Goodman Swimming Pool.
Body
WHEREAS the CitiARTS Commission's mission is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison's citizens; and
WHEREAS the Common Council adopted Resolution, I.D. 30476 on March 19, 2002 adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and
WHEREAS the framework recommends CitiARTS focus on City capital projects as a primary way to introduce public art into the life of the City; and
WHEREAS the Common Council adopted Resolution, ID 37090 on November 23, 2004 adopting the construction of a new Swimming Pool; and
WHEREAS many components of the swimming pool project could be enhanced or modified as part a public art feature; and
WHEREAS a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) will go out to artists, engineers, and architects and a jury appointed by the Mayor's Office made up of two CitiARTS Committee member, up to two neighborhood representatives, one Swimming Pool Committee member, the Parks Director or appointee, one artist, one representative from the Architectural firm already in place for this project, and CitiARTS staff; and
WHEREAS the jury will select one artist and/or team based on examples of past work, to design and implement a public artwork. The selected artist or team will go into contracts with the City of Madison for design and fabrication of the artwork; and
WHEREAS the $75,000.00 fee will be all-inclusive, covering artists' fees, materials and fabrication costs installation, insurance, travel and other related expenses; and
