Title

Authorizing the City Engineer to submit warranty alteration forms and necessary paperwork, including a signed overburden waiver to Firestone Building Products Company LLC, for photovoltaic system installations at City owned facilities in order to authorize the installations under the terms of the roof’s warranty.

Body

WHEREAS, the City has current plans for new photovoltaic system installations at the Metro Transit Bus Garage and Water Utility Vehicle Storage Building, and has future plans for other such installations at City-owned facilities where the new systems will be installed on Firestone roofs with existing 20-year warranties; and,

WHEREAS, in order to authorize photovoltaic system installations under the terms of the existing roof warranties, Firestone Building Products LLC requires the City to submit a post warranty alteration form and other necessary paperwork, including an overburden waiver; and,

WHEREAS, Firestone Building Products Company LLC requires the City to sign and file a new overburden waiver whenever any above-membrane material, temporary or permanent, is added to the roof which requires removal prior to investigation or repair of a suspected roof leak; and,

WHEREAS, in 2019, the Common Council approved two such projects (for an installation at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 2019-RES-00650, and a different installation at Metro Transit Bus Garage, 2019-RES-00545).

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Engineer is authorized to sign and submit a post warranty alteration form and all necessary paperwork, including new overburden waivers, required by Firestone Building Products Company LLC, or other roofing supply companies, to allow for the installation of photovoltaic systems on the roof of City-owned facilities with existing warranties, on terms and conditions approved by City Engineer and the City Attorney.
