Jody Shaw of Potter Lawson appealing NFPA 13:8.15.7.1.  The rule requires that overlays/soffits which are over 4 feet wide and constructed from combustible materials shall be sprinklered.  The Variance requested is to waive the sprinklers as the exterior soffit is 25 feet in the air.
