Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2023-02 Authorization to Accept American Rescue Plan Act Funds from the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families for the Maternal Child Health Program

Body

Public Health-Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes accepting American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds from the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. These funds enable the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program to address fetal and infant loss through the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) process, which the MCH team facilitates.

The purpose of the FIMR process is to improve understanding of the conditions that contribute to stillbirth and infant death. FIMR provides more thorough and timely information about the medical and social factors that affect the families who have experienced tragic outcomes of fetal or infant death.

The ARPA funds will be used to compensate individuals with lived experience or pertinent expertise to be a part of the FIMR case review team. By ensuring the FIMR case review team has diverse perspectives and represents the communities most impacted by infant mortality disparities, more strategic and impactful actions can be taken.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison on behalf of Public Health-Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to sign an agreement, to accept the funding and amend the budget accordingly, and to spend $50,000 to support the Maternal Child Health program.
