Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2021-24 Authorization to Accept Funds from the American Lung Association to support tobacco free campus work at UW-Madison through Spark

Body

Spark, a Wisconsin-wide, state-supported program, helps college campuses pass tobacco-free policies and educate campus communities about the threat of tobacco in all its forms. Spark offers young adults a platform and an opportunity to be an advocate on their campus. Currently, all Wisconsin campus buildings are included in the statewide smoke-free air law <https://www.lung.org/getmedia/5949b7fc-d791-495b-beb7-86d54ec9ec26/wisconsin-smoke-free.pdf.pdf> that requires indoor public places must be smoke-free. Spark advocates for 100% comprehensive tobacco-free policies for all campus premises, including all outdoor areas.

PHMDC staff have served as the off-campus advisor to the UW-Madison Spark group since 2014.

The American Lung Association has selected UW-Madison Spark to receive $2,000 for activities on campus. PHMDC will serve as the fiscal agent for the grant and reimburse purchases made by Spark members.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County, on behalf of Public Health-Madison and Dane County, is authorized to accept $2,000 from the American Lung Association and distribute this funding to support the UW-Madison Spark Campus group.
