Fiscal Note

The report “Communities Inspiring Libraries: A Strategic Plan for Eastside Growth” includes a number of recommendations to meet the future library service needs for Madison’s eastside.  No appropriation is required at this time, but it is anticipated that the Library will include requests in future budgets subject to the approval by the Library Board and by Common Council.

Accepting the report and recommendations of Madison Public Library’s “Communities Inspiring Libraries: A Strategic Plan for Eastside Growth.”

Body

WHEREAS, in fulfillment of a charge from the Common Council to the Library to prepare a strategic plan for delivery of library services to Madison’s eastside to include the following:

1.  The hiring of a library planner to lead the project;

2.  Establish criteria and implement the criteria in evaluating potential sites for relocation or expansion of library facilities;

3.  Determine the current status of library services to the eastside and establish a base from which to develop a strategic direction for future library services;

4.  Develop a methodology to inform the plan with input from the community in which the plan would serve;

5.  Utilize the community input coupled with existing demographic data to inform the plan;

6.  Establish a set of recommendations;

7.  Couple the facility sites recommendations with scope of function for the sited facilities;

8.  Develop metrics to measure the success of the implementation of the plan

9.  Make the plan available via a direct report to the Library Board, Mayor and Common Council as well as online and print versions available to the public

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council accepts the Madison Public Library’s “Communities Inspiring Libraries:  A Strategic Plan for Eastside Growth” final report and recommendations.
