Recognizing National Voter Registration Day
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison is committed to transparency, openness, and inclusivity through civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the City Clerk’s Office is to provide equitable access to open government by promoting the inclusion and full participation of all residents in the democratic process; and
WHEREAS, thousands of Madison residents need to update their voter registration, having moved since they last voted; and
WHEREAS, many eligible voters are unaware that their right to vote was restored once they completed all the terms of a felony sentence; and
WHEREAS, convenient and accessible options for voter registration are imperative for active participation in the election process;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison is extending Civic Season by recognizing National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, and commits to joining national efforts to support voter registration and citizen participation in elections.
