Title

Rejecting all bids for the Madison Municipal Building and authorizing the removal the Madison Municipal Building Annex utilizing City crews.

Body

Whereas, On January 27, 2017 the City received bids for the remodeling of the Madison Municipal Building with the low bidder’s bid of $28,841,428 exceeding the construction budget of $21,300,000; and,

Whereas, The City Engineer recommends rebidding the project in late March of 2017 with a revised plan and bid package that reduces scope and risk; and,

Whereas, The Judge Doyle Square Project requires the removal of the annex as in order to develop the back half of the block on which the Madison Municipal Building sits; and,

Whereas, the rebidding of the Madison Municipal Building will be simplified if the annex is removed prior to the General Contractor starting work on the Madison Municipal Building.

Now therefore be it resolved that the Common Council finds that the Bids for the Madison Municipal Building are excessive and hereby rejects all bids; and,

Be it further resolved that in accordance with Wisconsin Statute 62.15(5)(b), the City Engineer is hereby ordered to complete the demolition of the annex utilizing City crews under the supervision of the Board of Public Works.
