Recognizing Marcus Boyce, Freddie Carter, Greg Gersbach, Travis McGuire, and David Radtke for their selfless acts of heroism to rescue a neighbor from a fire.
Body
WHEREAS, on August 26, 2016 at 6:56 a.m., these individuals were preparing for work and noticed smoke coming from a nearby home; and
WHEREAS, Greg Gersbach called 911 to initiate a prompt response from the Madison Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, these individuals went to the home, heard someone struggling inside, and attempted to open the locked front door; and
WHEREAS, they moved to a nearby window when they were unable to gain access through the front door, pushed away a large window fan, and saw heavy smoke and fire inside; and
WHEREAS, they could see the occupant crawling on the floor and called out to the occupant to come to the window; and
WHEREAS, the occupant crawled to the base of the window and collapsed, these heroic men displayed courage and resolve as they battled heavy smoke, risking their own lives in order to reach in and pull the occupant out of the window to safety, thereby saving his life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison honors and acknowledges the heroism of Marcus Boyce, Freddie Carter, Greg Gersbach, Travis McGuire, and David Radtke, and thanks them for their brave and noble actions to save another life.
