Commending Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County on their 50th Anniversary.

 

Body

WHEREAS Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life; and,

 

WHEREAS, since 1966, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County has helped children reach their full potential through professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships; and,

 

WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County has served thousands of children over the decades through community and school-based mentoring programs; and,

 

WHEREAS, children who are mentored through Big Brothers Big Sisters are more likely to graduate from high school, have better relationships with peers, family, and teachers, and are less likely to do drugs/alcohol and skip school; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2013-14 100% of their senior "Littles" graduated from high school; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County served 650 children and has a list of 350 children waiting for a Big Brother or Sister,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Madison Common Council recognize and commend Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County on their 50th Anniversary and wish them continued success in improving the lives of Madison's children.
