Presentation: Poetry Recitation by Rain Wilson, UW-Madison First Wave Program

Body
Rain Wilson is sought after for her ability to teach, empower, and spark change in the minds of an audience, with her spoken word. She is one of the most courageous writers and arts educators today. Rain understands what can be created when oppressed people, especially youth and women are led back into their voices. Rain has chosen to craft plays, speeches, and workshops around the issues surrounding African American people and others who work tirelessly to balance on a tightrope pulled between life and death, hope and oppression, peace and war. Rain has an MFA in theater and has been using her skills to help empower those in need for over 15 years. Rain continues to utilize poetry and performance as her foundation on which to burn down walls with words as she works with students at UW-Madison as the Associate Artistic Director of First Wave, directing them and teaching them ways to grow their art and immerse them in their personal narrative. "The voiceless must be heard, and be presented so that they land in the hearts and minds of those who can scream their needs loud, causing it to shake oppression loose at it's roots".
