Title
Amending Section 33.27(2)(b) of the Madison General Ordinances to revise the name of the Minority Affairs Committee to Multicultural Affairs Committee.
Body
DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS:  The City of Madison's Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) would like to change its name to the Multicultural Affairs Committee.  The makeup of the committee consists of City of Madison employees of many races, ethnicities, and cultures.  Many who identify as people of color find the term "minority" to be lacking in dignity and believe the term "multicultural" better reflects the diversity in the group and will encourage more City employees to join MAC.  MAC hopes that this change will reflect positively on the City and add to the current momentum in the City towards equity and employee engagement.  MAC hopes the City of Madison considers abandoning the term "minority" in other City business wherever possible.
