Approving the conceptual plan and geometry for the State Street 700 & 800 Blocks Reconstruction Project.

PREAMBLE
The City is proposing to reconstruct State Street from Park Street to Lake Street in 2014. During the design process the City has held two public information meetings and numerous adjacent property stakeholder meetings to discuss the design and obtain public input. The goals for the project were identified that the design should be timeless, durable, easy to maintain and flexible. After incorporating input the design team has prepared a conceptual plan for the project.
The proposed design includes the following cross section for the 66' right of way (from south to north):
8' sidewalk zone
12' amenity zone
26' pedestrian/bicycle/fire lane area
12' amenity zone
8' sidewalk zone
The sidewalk zone is intended for pedestrians only along the property line of adjacent property owners. The Amenity zone provides opportunities for trees, planters, benches, street lighting and other streetscape components. The center pedestrian/bicycle/fire lane zone allows for pedestrians and bicyclists to safely maneuver about the space, while also allowing fire lane space for future development needs.
The inclusion of bicycle accommodations along the center zone will require amendment to the Madison General Ordinances.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the conceptual plan and geometry are hereby approved for the State Street 700 & 800 Blocks Reconstruction Project.
