Funding is authorized in the 2012 adopted capital budget of the Planning, Community and Economic Development agency, project no. 1, "Municipal Art Fund," Acc't No. 810427. No additional appropriation is required.
Title
Seeking Common Council approval of the 2012 Art in Public Places funding awards as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted Resolution ID #30476 on March 19, 2002, adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art Framework and Field Guide recommends the Madison Arts Commission create opportunities for community partnerships for Art in City-Building; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission, whose mission it is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison's citizens, re-established the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program at their Wednesday, May 9, 2012, meeting; and
WHEREAS, funding for these projects are identified as potential expenditures in the Municipal Art Fund in the 2012 Capital Budget; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission issued a call for proposals inviting non-profit organizations and neighborhood groups to submit letters of interest in the AIPP program; and
WHEREAS, by the Friday, June 1 application deadline the Madison Arts Commission received four applications for Art in Public Places projects funding, totaling $50,500 in requests; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art Standing Committee of the Madison Arts Commission met on Monday, June 4, 2012, to evaluate the letters of interest received for the 2012 grant period; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission invited three of four applicants to present their proposals before the full Madison Arts Commission on Tuesday, July 10, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission reviewed the proposals and recommends funding of all three projects for Art in Public Places funding, as follows:
