Commending IATSE Local 251 for 100 years of service to the City of Madison and southern Wisconsin.
Body
WHEREAS, the success of a labor union is measured by the dedication of its leadership and membership; and
WHEREAS, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 251; and
WHEREAS, Local 251 has a rich history in Madison and southern Wisconsin of protecting the rights and advancing the interests of the men and women whose personal efforts have helped make southern Wisconsin's arts community thrive; and
 
WHEREAS, from behind the scenes beginning in 1912 at Madison's oldest theater, The Fuller Opera House, to 2012 at the new Overture Center for the Arts, Local 251 stagehands and projectionists have maintained high standards in their professions; and
 
WHEREAS, many Local 251 IATSE members were recently employed as City employees at the Overture Center for the Arts and some are current City employees employed at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, we look forward to the next 100 years of world class entertainment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend IATSE Local 251 for 100 years of service to the City of Madison and southern Wisconsin.
