The Resolution authorizes the issuance of an RFP to select a consultant that will develop a Performing Arts Study. The 2012 Budget includes $125,000 located in Miscellaneous Direct Appropriations for the study.

Body
WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council adopted the 2012 budget, authorizing the City to apply up to $125,000 in operating funds to enlist the services of a consultant to develop a Performing Arts Study addressing issues such as governance, ownership, financing, and the allocation of city resources; and

WHEREAS, the City wishes to hire a qualified consultant in the field of performing arts to
conduct a comprehensive study of the performing arts environment in Madison; and

WHEREAS, the RFP will require the resulting study will to describe whether, and how, existing facilities meet current needs; and

WHEREAS, the study will provide the identification of a road map for improvements needed in our performing arts facilities, as well as new facilities that may be needed in the future; and

WHEREAS, in addition to this needs assessment, the study will include recommendations for how local performers and facilities can work together to maximize each facility’s potential use; and

WHEREAS to ensure broad public participation and acceptance of the plan a Steering Committee is necessary to guide and inform the work of the consultant, and

WHEREAS, a Steering Committee will work with the consultant to help them develop community contacts and act as a sounding board.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development is authorized to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a consultant to develop a Performing Arts Study...
