Body
WHEREAS the City of Madison is a Solar America City receiving Department of
Energy grants in 2007 and 2010; and,

WHEREAS the City of Madison has promoted solar energy installations through Madison’s solar program called Madisun; and,

WHEREAS the Wisconsin solar sector has been a bright spot of job creation despite the steady decline in manufacturing jobs that has afflicted Wisconsin’s economy. Data from 2011 suggests 100% industry-wide growth from 2010 including over 135 solar supply/manufacturing businesses in the state; and,

WHEREAS the WisconSUN Solar PV is a project of the MadiSUN Solar Program to build and install the first-ever solar PV system made from as many Wisconsin made products and services as possible and to showcase the green practices of a local business; and,

WHEREAS Union Cab was selected because they are committed to sustainability. Union Cab’s activities include:
· Replacing 4 fleet vehicles with hybrids
· Implementing a single source recycling program to reduce waste
· Participating in Bike to Work week
· Replacing light fixtures with higher-efficiency bulbs
· Conserving water with rain barrels and landscaping
· Reducing water use with 1.6-gallon toilets
· Building a bike barn for commuters;

and,

WHEREAS Union Cab will be contributing $12,500 towards the project and generous Wisconsin companies including:

· RSTC Enterprises
· EverGreen Sustainable Products
· Johnson Controls
· MG&E
· IBEW Local 159
· H&H Solar,
