Chris Kilen of Kilen Engineering appealing IBC 503.1 and IBC 903.2.4. The rule requires automatic sprinklers because the addition exceeds the area limits. The variance is requested because a fire wall would restrict movement. The proposal is to sprinkle entire building over the next ten years. The Madison Fire Department supports the variance as long as all high-piled and Group A plastics storage is sprinkled. The balance of the building shall be sprinkled by 12-31-2024.
